Doris V. Nickerson, 87, of Bedford, died on April 3, 2016 at her Bedford residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Nickerson was born in Montclair, New Jersey, on December 8, 1928, and was the daughter of the late John Philip and Bessie(Ortlip) Van Sant.

Mrs. Nickerson was a longtime Bedford resident and member of the Arlington Heights Baptist Church; in recent years, she attended Grace Chapel in Lexington.

She was educated in Glen Ridge, New Jersey and received her bachelor's degree from Providence-Barrington Bible College in 1953.

She is survived by her husband, of 62 years, Raymond Nickerson and her children, Nathan Nickerson and his wife Nancy of Portland, ME, Betsy Keeney and her husband Dennis of Pepperell, Sheri Traverse and her husband William of West Hartford, CT, her grandchildren, Amara Lynch and her husband Michael, Rory Nickerson, Daniel, Bryan, Erin and Kevin Keeney and Timothy, Laura, Danielle, Jaime and Landon Traverse and her two great grandchildren, Mia Posey and Asher Lynch. She was predeceased by her son, Daniel R. Nickerson in 1985, as well as her siblings, Ruth Burdett and Philip, Melvin, William and Betty Van Sant.

Visitation will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Friday, April 15, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Chapel, 59 Worthen Rd., Lexington, on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at 3:30, with a reception following immediately.
