Dr. Doris Dickranoohi Jafferian, of Wayland, Massachusetts, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, advocate, lover of chocolate, ice cream and Dunkin' Munchkins, shoes, and big bacheeg giver, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2022, at the age of 88.

Doris was born on July 10, 1933, in Waltham and was the daughter of Armenian genocide survivors, the late Andreas and Serpoohi Jafferian, wife of the late Donald Lunny and sister of the late Nishan Jafferian.

Having met Antranig DerMarderosian on a blind date, they fell in love and later married on September 12, 1954.  They raised their children in Newton where Doris became a room parent in Newton's public school system which inspired her love for education.

Driven by her children's claim that they were getting too smart for her (in their minds of course) her many accomplishments included receiving a Bachelor's degree from Mass Bay Community College and Framingham State College, attending at first part time as she raised her children, then as her children grew older, attending full time and receiving a Master's degree from Boston College, and finally a Doctorate of Education from Harvard University.

She went on to work for Continuum, a company that helped women who had raised their families re-enter the work force, and then at Curry College and Daniel Webster College, where she was professor of business and management classes, eventually becoming department chair, spearheading the establishment of the EXCEL program at the college, and was named professor emeritus after her retirement. Her claim, that "mothers know everything," while in most cases may have been an exaggeration, in her case was actually true.

In retirement, her love of learning continued and she took advantage of many classes offered by area colleges in a variety of subjects, especially music, which was a deep passion her entire life. She volunteered with many organizations, including the League of Women Voters, the Armenian Church in which she was active and sang in the choir. She enjoyed many enduring friendships throughout her life.

In the early 1990s, she married Donald Lunny and moved to Carlisle where she resided until 2019.  She travelled extensively with Donald to Spain, Italy, Ireland, Scotland, and Greece. Doris loved visiting the beach with family and friends and enjoyed sitting quietly reading.

Her intense love of learning, academia, and her accomplishments, paled by comparison to her love of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her unending love and devotion for them was matched with her relentless advocacy, concern, and willingness to act on their behalf. This was evident in many ways, from when she insisted that her newborn children receive the best natural care, sometimes in opposition to the conventional "wisdom" at the time, to insisting to school administrators her children be taught by the teachers with the best reputations in school, and devoting her whole life to all her loved ones' education, careers and marriages. But more than anything, was her willingness and dedication to bringing joy to all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and sharing the joy she felt to just be with them. "Just seeing them, just looking at them, makes me happy."

She was the loving mother to Mark DerMarderosian of Marlboro, Alan DerMarderosian of Burbank, CA, and Kara Kressy of Wellesley, mother-in-law to Karen DerMarderosian, Narine DerMarderosian and Matthew Kressy, former wife to Antranig DerMarderosian. She also leaves her sister, Andrea Marchand and brother-in-law, John, beloved  grandchildren,  Kent and his wife Trish Hiers, Ali and her partner Mike Manning, Reed, Sophia and her husband Daniel McCormack, Isabelle and Avedis and cherished great grandchildren, Elise Ruby, Madeline, Charlie and Ace. She also leaved behind many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Carriage House at Lee's Farm, Roxana's Senior Home Care, Good Shepherd Hospice, and her nurse practitioner, Kim O'Callaghan, for their incredible love and support.

Funeral services will be held at Saints Vartanantz Armenian Church, 180 Old Westford Rd., Chelmsford, on Wednesday, June 15, at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 The Great Rd., Bedford, on Tuesday, June 14, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M.  Masks are optional at services.

Interment will follow at Green Cemetery in Carlisle.
