Doreen French's Obituary
Doreen C. (McConnell) French of Bedford, died peacefully in Acton, on November 16, 2014, following a lengthy illness, at the age of 79.
Doreen leaves her beloved husband of 55 years, Claude A. French, Jr., her sons, Harry G French (predeceased in 2009), Claude A. French, III, of Acton MA, and her beloved Granddaughter Alexandra Draper of Rockland, MA. Doreen had lived, with her family, in Bedford, since 1961.
Doreen French was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, graduating High School in Warren Michigan in 1953. She was the daughter of the late Victor C. and Esther (Hebert) McConnell. Doreen was one of 6 children, being the 3rd eldest with all of her siblings predeceasing her.
Doreen began her professional career in 1953, working for the federal government, Department of the Army, Ordinance Corps, Detroit, MI. Over the ensuing years, Doreen worked in many capacities, and in many places for the government, retiring in 1993, after 37 years of service.
The most notable times of her career were in Germany where she worked at Rhein Main Air Force Base, before starting her family. After a short respite from employment, Doreen returned to her education and federal civilian career at Hanscom Air Force Base, in Bedford, MA, in 1963.
During her time at Hanscom, Doreen continued her career as a secretary, but soon advanced to become a Program Financial Analyst. As an Analyst, Doreen worked on very high visibility, highly complex and large funding value programs for the United States Department of Defense.
At Hanscom, Doreen held a number of different positions where she worked in both System Program Offices, as well as staff positions within the Technical Systems, AWACS and JTIDS Organizations and the Directorate of Engineering and Program Management.
After 37 years as a federal civilian employee Doreen retired in March 1993. However, Doreen did return to further employment with the Northrup Grumman Corporation located in Lincoln, MA, where she remained for six years, as an Office Manager, retiring again in June 2000.
Doreen enjoyed traveling, crocheting, and most importantly, spending time with her family.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, November 19 at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, from 4-7 P.M. Funeral services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Doreen's memory to Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970.
