Donald F. Lunny's Obituary
Donald F. Lunny, 84, died peacefully on September 18, 2013, at his home in Carlisle.
Born and raised in Auburndale, Mass., he joined the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan as a staff sergeant in charge of a radar shop.
Upon returning to Newton, he attended Boston University and became a licensed aircraft technician. He also lived in Framingham for a number of years.
For forty years, Donald owned and operated Lunny's Auto Service in Newton, an old time full-service gas station that was at one time featured in The Boston Globe. It was here that he formed many lifelong friendships with his customers and was also a mentor to those that worked for him. His customers always appreciated his honesty and integrity.
His passion was repairing and flying single engine planes, especially his Cessna's. Over the course of his flying career, he repaired and flew seventeen planes.
He also loved and enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Charles River Country Club and the Woods in Westminster.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Jafferian, children, Donald Lunny Jr., David Lunny and Kristen Harrington, sisters, Sandra Lunny and Sheila Duffy and grandchildren, Jonathan Stickley, Caroline, Courtney, Shane, Brittany and Brendan Lunny. He was predeceased by his daughter, Betsy Stickley, granddaughter, Caitlin Landess, sister, Patricia Kilmain and brother, Wiilliam Lunny.
Donald appeared to have a tough exterior but he cared deeply for those he loved. He will be missed by his wife, family and circle of friends.
His funeral will be held from the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 The Great Rd., Bedford, Mon., Sept. 23, at 9:00 A.M. followed a funeral service at Saints Vartanantz Armenian Church, Chelmsford, at 10 A.M. Visitation at the funeral home will be on Sun. , Sept. 22, from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA or to Saints Vartanantz Armenian Church, 180 Old Westford Rd., Chelmsford, MA 01824.
