Obituary

Donald Louis Gecks, born March 15, 1929, was called home to the mansions of heaven, which our Lord had prepared for him on May 16, 2023.

Dear son of the late Harry L. Gecks and Bertha H (Peters) Gecks

Don was born in Dayton, Kentucky and received the gift of salvation in Christ through holy baptism in 1929 where he was made a child of God. He was received as a member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod during his time serving in the U.S. Navy. Throughout his life he devoted himself to loving and serving his family, friends, and church, while also faithfully serving his community in many ways. He loved his times volunteering at Central Food Ministry in Lowell, MA, All Faiths Food Bank in Sarasota, FL as well as serving as Vice President of the South Venice, FL Civic Association.

Don was an electrical engineer who worked for over 25 years at Itek, designing cameras for NASA as well as other governmental agencies. He then worked for Coulter Biomedical working on the optical imaging on various medical instruments.

Of all his vocations none was more cherished than his role of husband, father and grandfather.

He was the loving husband of the late Marion (Priebe) Gecks. Beloved father of Dianne Carey and her husband Daniel, Bruce Gecks and his wife Kathleen, Carole Burns and her husband Douglas, David Gecks and his wife Norma Jean, Stephen Gecks and his wife Lisa. Beloved grandfather of David Carey, Bethany Carey Beck and her husband Adam, Gregory Burns and fiancé Samantha, Jaclyn Vitalie and her husband Craig, Cassie Baum and her husband Brian, Benjamin Carey and his wife Bethany, Corissa Webb and her husband Zackery, Brandon Burns, Ryan Gecks and Evan Gecks. Dear great grandfather of Morgan, Emmanuel (Manny), Gavin, Audrey, Harper, Scarlett, Lindsey and Hazel. Survived by his niece, Vicky Lewis, nephew, Craig Priebe and sister-in-law, Marilyn Priebe. He was predeceased by his beloved brother, Melvin John Gecks and his wife Geraldine and his nephew Dennis.

Don was a friend to many.

A funeral service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Savior, 426 Davis Rd., Bedford on Monday, May 22, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Sunday, May 21, from 2:00-4:00 P.M.

Don's mortal remains will be laid to rest in Shawsheen Cemetery until the great day of the resurrection when all in their graves will hear the voice of our Savior Jesus to awaken him from His sleep and unite his body and soul to live in eternal joy and glory. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the source of all mercy, and the God of all consolation! He comforts us in all our sorrows so that we can comfort others in their sorrows with the consolation we ourselves have received from God.

Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

"And behold, I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Food Pantry, 370 W. Sixth St., Lowell, MA 01850.
