Dennis Costa, age 90, of Bedford, died on Friday, March 13, 2015, at his home.
Mr. Costa was born in Taunton, on February 9, 1925, and he was the son of the late Francisco and Sophie (Botelho) Costa.
He was raised in Cambridge and attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II aboard the battleship the USS West Virginia. He was honorably discharged in February of 1946 as a Seaman First Class.
Following his discharge, he moved to New York City and enrolled in the New York Institute of Photography. He graduated in 1949 and embarked on his career as a professional photographer. He most often worked on weekends doing weddings and in later years was associated with Varian and Itek Corporation.
He loved reading, especially military history, oil painting and woodworking. A Bedford resident since 1959, he was a member of St. Michael Parish and the American Legion Post 221 of Bedford.
He was married to the former Rose Lousararian on September 23, 1956, at St. Anthony's Church in Cambridge.
He is survived by his wife, Rose with whom he shared 58 years of marriage, two daughters, Denise Costa of Winter Garden, FL and June Martel of Bedford, seven grandchildren, Nick, Chelsea, Tommy, Johnny and Frankie Costa and Jessica and Daniel Martel as well as many nieces and nephews. Mr. Costa was predeceased by his son, Mark Costa and sister, Leonora Martignetti.
His funeral will be held from the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Wednesday, March, 18, at 8:00 A.M. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford, at 9:00 A.M. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 17, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Interment will follow at Shawsheen Cemetery in Bedford.
