Obituary

David L. McMurtrie, of Bedford, died on May 11, 2014, in Concord.

Mr. McMurtrie was born in New Hampshire and was a longtime resident of Bedford.

He was a veteran of World War II and recipient of the Purple Heart.

After completion of his military service he enrolled in Harvard University and graduated in 1950, magna cum laude. He continued his education at Harvard, earning an MS in applied science in 1951 and an MS in engineering science in 1953. While at Harvard he was a Phi Beta Kappa and was a member of The Harvard Crimson staff.

He went on to spend his professional career at Raytheon as an electrical engineer and project manager.

He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia (Blinstrub) McMurtrie, his daughters, Julia McMurtrie of Somerville and Elizabeth McMurtrie and her husband, John Lawson of Arlington, VA, his son, Curtis McMurtrie of Bedford, his grandchildren, Anthony and Charlotte Lawson and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Mark McMurtrie, brothers, George, Robert and Richard McMurtrie and sister, Marguerite Bean.

Visiting hours will be held at Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, Thurs. May 15, from 4 to 8 P.M. Funeral service to be held at the First Church of Christ, Congregational, 25 Great Rd., Bedford, Fri. May 16, at 11 A.M.
