Mr. Acker grew up in Swansea, MA. A graduate of MIT, David worked as a research chemical engineer at MIT and retired from Arthur D. Little after twenty-five years of service. While at ADL, David was instrumental in the formation of the ADL Employees Federal Credit Union and served seven years as its first president.

In 1940 Mr. Acker married Marion Bachelder, a native of Athol, MA. Marion died in 1989 following an extended illness. Together they raised five children and volunteered for various organizations.


Mr. Acker was a member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational in Bedford, MA and served the church at various times as deacon, moderator, treasurer, and twice as a member of a pastoral search committee. Dave also served the Metropolitan Boston Association of the denomination as treasurer and as a member of the Committee on the Ministry. Twice he was a delegate to the General Synod of the denomination.

In 1992, David moved to Sandwich, MA, where he was active in the Academy for Lifelong Learning for retired persons at Cape Cod Community College. David was active for many years in a Barber Shop Quartet and Chorus. In 2007 Dave moved to Brooksby Village in Peabody, MA, where he continued to enjoy his retirement years.

Surviving are his four children, Karl W. of East Meadow, NY, Glenn W. of County Donegal, Ireland, Merrilie R. Irik of Santa Monica, CA, Cynthia J. Shupp of Danvers, MA, In addition there are seven grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Suzanne P. Acker in 1953.

David set an example for all those around him in how to live a Christian life.

The memorial service will take place at the First Church of Christ Congregational, 25 The Great Road, Bedford, MA on Saturday, November 7th, at 11:00 A.M., a reception/visiting hours will follow the service.
