Obituary

On Thursday August 22, 2024, Daniel J. Grant of Bedford, loving husband of 49 years and father of two, passed away at the age of 75.

Daniel (Dan) was the son of the late Daniel J. and Mary (Farrell) Grant. Raised in South Boston and Quincy, he went on to earn his Undergraduate degree from Fitchburg State University, a Master's degree from Rhode Island College, and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS) from UMass Lowell.

Daniel's dedication to education was evident throughout his career. He taught in the public schools in Foxborough, Walpole, and at Shawsheen Technical High School, and also at Fitchburg State University, Northeastern University, and Middlesex Community College. He concluded his career at Waltham Public Schools, leaving a lasting impact on his students and colleagues.

Dan was passionate about volunteering in his community. Dan was involved with Boy Scout Troop 194 in Bedford, where he served as an Assistant Scoutmaster. He loved going on camping trips with the scouts to places like the Legion Camporee and Gismo Island, where he served his world-famous trashcan turkey. He also gave his time to the Knights of Columbus including on Bedford Day and coaching various sports for his two sons. He hosted an annual Fourth of July pool party, where he got to gather the neighborhood and display his joy of hosting. Dan was an avid fan who loved watching every game for his Boston sports teams. He also enjoyed woodworking, grilling, brewing, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.

Daniel is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy (Dodge) Grant, his sons, Kevin and his fiancée Kathy and their daughter Kendra of Quincy, and Christopher of Waipahu, HI. He is also survived by his sisters, Louise Kelly of Quincy, Virginia MacKay of Quincy, and Diane Coco of Plymouth, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Elizabeth Molloy and Kathleen Williamson Fratus.

Visitation will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Monday, September 2, from 3:00-6:00 PM.
