Daniel M. Berkowitz, M.D., passed away on February 26, 2016, in Boston.

Dr. Berkowitz was born in New York, New York in 1942, and was the son of the late Alexander and Toby (Rosen) Berkowitz.
He was raised in New York and earned his undergraduate degree from New York University in 1963. In 1967, he graduated with his M.D. from New York University School of Medicine and became an intern at Cornell University Medical Center.

He left New York in 1968 to work as a clinical research associate at the National Cancer Institute, U.S. Dept. of Public Health Service in Bethesda, Maryland. While at the National Institute of Health he was part of the US Public Health Commission Corps and was discharged in 1970. He then completed his residency at Children's Hospital Medical Center and the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston.

Upon completing his training at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital , he stayed on as a faculty member. In 1979 he moved on to Suburban Radiology Associates, the busy Radiology practice with offices at Somerville Hospital , Symmes Hospital and in Lexington. He participated in the growth and development of the Cambridge Health Alliance. In 1999, Daniel and his Radiology colleagues at Suburban Radiology rejoined the BWH family and became members BWHPO and the Community Radiology Division.

Daniel held leadership positions in the CRD including the Chief of Radiology at the Harvard University Health Service. Daniel stepped down from radiology practice in 2010, largely for medical reasons. He continued to be a great member of the BWH Radiology extended family.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy (Carazola) Berkowitz, daughter, Jessica Fair and her husband, Bill and their children, Julia and Benjamin of Bedford, daughter, Laura Berkowitz and his sister, Susan Feinman of Wyoming. He will be remembered for his commitment to radiology, his quick intellect, and his encyclopedic knowledge of classical music and composers. He particularly loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed going on trips with his family to the Swan Boats and museums in Boston and to New York City. He also traveled extensively with his wife to London, Australia, Venice and the Caribbean. He will always be loved and held close in his family's hearts.

A funeral service will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Tuesday, March 1 at 10:30am.
