Catherine J. Rogers of Concord, Mass. died on July 14, 2014.

Cathy joined the New England District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, as a marine ecologist after getting her BS and MS in Marine Sciences. She began her career with us on May 7th 1986. She married Will Rogers (formerly of NAE Operations Division, then from NAD) in 2001.

She was instrumental in coastal storm damage reduction projects, small and large navigation projects, ecosystem restoration projects and national reviews as a Regional Technical Specialist. Cathy completed several EISs for dredged material disposal sites in Long Island Sound and all of the EIS and SEIS work for major Boston Harbor improvement projects.

She represented USACE at numerous forums including the Right Whale Recovery Team, Long Island Sound National Estuary Program Management Committee, the Gulf of Maine Council, Southern New England Ecosystem Restoration Program, Northeast Regional Ocean Council meetings, New England Federal Partners meetings, and the Northeast Regional Dredging Team, and frequently presented at International Coastal Zone and other conferences. Cathy has had numerous challenging assignments including a detail to North Atlantic Division to assist in environmental compliance reviews.

In 2004, Cathy was promoted to Regional Technical Specialist for Ecosystem Restoration and Environmental Compliance. Her reviews of nationally important projects for environmental compliance and ecosystem restoration such as the Hurricane Sandy North Atlantic Coastal Comprehensive Study, the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Project, the Mississippi Coastal Improvements Program and the New York/New Jersey Harbor Deepening Project greatly improved the USACE delivery of its mission.

She is survived by her cherished husband William A. Rogers, her mother Sue Cavanaugh of Chicopee, her father James Demos and his wife Rita of Hampden. Loving sister of Gina Borys and her husband Michael of Glendale, CA and Paul Demos and his wife Dina of East Longmeadow, aunt of Alexander and Andrew Demos.

Visitation at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford on Fri., July 18, from 3-7 and at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 No. Main St., East Longmeadow on Sat., July 19, from 3-7, both followed by a brief service. Burial will be Mon. at St. Michael's Cemetery, Springfield for close family and friends.
