On November 16, 2017 Carolyn Cassidy passed away at Lahey Clinic in Burlington from complications related to ALS. She was 75. Although incredibly sad for us, at least she has been set free from this horrible disease. She never complained about getting ALS, and stayed strong throughout her journey.

A heartfelt thank you to those that supported our family since her diagnosis. Your thoughtfulness was most appreciated, whether you stopped in to visit, took her out or brought her goodies, and just checked to see how we were all holding up. Special thanks to long-time Bedford friends Sue and Jack Giurleo, (the world's best next-door neighbors) Gladys and Bill Drohan, Arlene Downing, Joyce Graham, Priscilla & Harold Grunes, and too many others to list here.

We are grateful for the wonderful people at the MA ALS Association, including Laura Gallagher and Lynn Aaronson. The entire care services team was also most appreciated, although Carolyn was sadly not the winner of the "Most Compliant ALS Patient of 2017 Award." The dedicated medical staff at the Lahey ALS Center, including Dr. James Russell, the emergency department staff, and nurses on 7W were top-notch.

Carolyn enjoyed entertaining family and friends, and was a great hostess. A longtime Bedford resident, she worked at the MITRE Corporation for 36 years. She was active in Bedford's Patrons of Music Students when her children were in school, and many other clubs and organizations. More recently, she enjoyed helping Bob with various Rotary service projects. She played the piano, and enjoyed singing along while playing. At times, the singing was even in the same key. She had a good sense of humor, and made a seriously awesome Trifle and Baked Alaska. If you hold investments in the whipped cream industry, SELL!

Carolyn was a great shopper. Her brief hospital stay placed us on the top floor of the hospital, overlooking a special place for her...the Burlington Mall. If there was a hospital near Marshall's, she would have been there instead.

After the holidays, there will be a celebration of her life. Among other things, we'll have salt and pepper shakers for everyone to take home "by mistake."
