Carl Anthony Silvestrone passed away peacefully with his beloved wife and children by his side on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at the age of 57 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Carl, a lifetime resident and fourteen-year employee of the Town of Bedford, was born in 1957 to Catherine (D'Amore) and Gismonde Silvestrone of Bedford's former Mr. Gene's Hair Salon. He was the oldest son and one of six children.

In 1981, he married the love of his life, Cathy (Spencer) Silvestrone, another lifelong resident and current employee of The Town of Bedford. They both grew up and met each other on Page Road, where they eventually purchased their own home and started a family.

Carl was famously known around town as a man who could fix or construct just about anything. He was a dedicated employee of The Department of Public Works, but he was also involved in numerous town activities: From spinning cotton candy at the Pan Mass Challenge (children making a difference in the fight against cancer)
to wheeling handicapped veterans to church at the V.A. Hospital, Carl's love and passion for his town could be seen everywhere he went. He also was a major force behind the restoration of the old-fashioned railway baggage cart located by the bike path entrance along Loomis Street.

Carl is survived by his partner, Cathy, and daughters Shallon and Alisha Silvestrone who are both young teachers and lovers of education. He is also survived by his father, Gismonde Silvestrone; siblings, Donna and Joel Gandolfi of Marion, MA, Jean and Marsby Warters of Fairhaven, MA, Paula and Bruce Hull of Longmont, Colorado, Molly and Steven Schaeffer of Duxbury Massachusetts, and Daniel and Marion Silvestrone of Bedford, Massachusetts; as well as by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine (D'Amore) Silvestrone; sister-in-law, Patricia (Spencer) Valente; and mother and father-in-law, Patricia (Chaisson) and Robert Spencer.

At Carl's request, there will be a celebration-of-life fundraiser instead of traditional services. This celebration will take place on his birthday, Friday, February 13, 2015 at Saint Michael's Parish Center from 4:30-8:00 p.m. Anybody and everybody who knew Carl or his family is invited. Please, no black attire. This event is meant to be uplifting and semi-casual. We want to commemorate the life of a happy and caring person while raising funds for two charities that struck close to home with Carl: Pan Mass Challenge and Pancreatic Cancer research.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, we will gladly accept donations for these two causes at the event via cash, check, or online payment. 100% of the proceeds will be split evenly and donated. At 6:00 p.m., there will be an "open-mic" for anybody who would like to share memories of Carl. We will end the event with a birthday cake and moment of silence in Carl's honor.
