In the quiet of the early morning on July 29, 2024, Beverly S. Howe, at the age of 99, peacefully transitioned from this life to the next. Born on June 20, 1925, to George B. Smith and Ethel P. Smith in Worcester, MA, she married George K. Howe in June 1948. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, and her elder brother, Richard "Dick" Smith. George and Beverly Howe moved to Lexington, MA in 1965 and are survived by their three children, Beverly H. Berndt from Maryland, Nancy Nishi from Japan, and George Howe, Jr. from Minnesota, as well as 11 grandchildren and more than 15 great-grandchildren.

Beverly Howe was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She expressed enjoyment in doing housework, especially while listening to Tennessee Ernie Ford. Despite her children living on different continents, they and their families remained close, frequently communicating and visiting. All the grandchildren cherished their visits to grandma and grandpa's house, where they swam in the pool, had picnics, and felt deeply nurtured. Grandpa George often said that nothing brought Beverly more joy than having the grandchildren over. She visited her growing family in Japan four times for three-week stays until her legs could no longer withstand the travel.

Beverly was deeply involved with her community and church, Hancock United Church of Christ. She volunteered as a nurse's aide at Symmes Hospital in Arlington and was always ready to assist neighbors in need, often bringing meals to those who were ill. At church, she lovingly cared for two-year-olds, supported her children in choir and youth ministry, and participated in numerous service projects. Beverly lived out the teachings of Jesus, exemplifying the call to "Be doers of the word, and not hearers only" (James 1:22-25). Her faith was evident through her active life of love, care, and service to others.

In 2004, Beverly moved into Carleton-Willard Village in Bedford, MA. Her brother joined her at the Village a few years later, and they both appreciated the community, administration, and staff. Beverly volunteered for the pastoral team at Carleton-Willard, as a greeter for Sunday worship services and helped in any useful way. She requested that donations be made to Carleton-Willard Village, 100 Old Billerica Rd., Bedford, MA 01730, instead of flowers.

A memorial service will be held at the Carleton-Willard Village, 100 Old Billerica Rd., on Wednesday, July 30, at 3:00 PM.
