Betty Louise Maddox

Betty Louise (Goulart) Maddox, 84, of Bedford passed away on July 18, 2026, surrounded by family. Betty was born on September 24, 1941, and grew up in Danvers, Massachusetts. Her family moved to Bedford, Massachusetts where she attended and graduated from Bedford High School. She remained a lifelong resident of Bedford.

Betty (Betty Lou) was a fiercely strong, generous, active and independent woman. She was extremely generous with her time, money, energy and love to those who knew her. Both her big smile and laugh were infectious. She met her husband, James William Maddox while working at Itek. They married and together they raised 5 children in Bedford. She was actively involved in everything her children were involved in from more than a decade of Girl Scouts to sports. She worked for Mitre Corporation as a technical assistant supporting the Bedford and Hanscom AFB offices for more than 40 years. Her friendships were many and vast spanning across numerous friend groups from work and tennis to friends from childhood and from decades of selling Avon. She loved to play tennis and played in multiple clubs and groups both indoor and outdoor, whenever she could fit it in from her weekday lunch breaks to nights and weekends several days a week into her mid 70’s. She loved to garden, shop and spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was exhilarated by finding a good deal.

Betty is survived by her husband James and children Corrine Clark-Hall (Paul) of New Hampshire, Kristin Capotosto of Ohio, Nicole Downey of Chelmsford, James Maddox (Savannah) of Texas and Matthew Maddox (Jennifer) of Maine, grandchildren, Makenzie Maddox, Kyle Clark, Paige Maddox, Grace Wolfe, Zachary Capotosto, Jack Capotosto, Nathan Capotosto, Ryan Maddox, Abby Downey, Bobby Downey, five great-grandchildren and her sister, Sally Eisenhauer also from Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Celia Goulart and sister Joan Murray.

Visitation will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Tuesday, July 21, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. The funeral service is private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
