Betty M.
Baker
Jan 5, 1926 — Sep 7, 2021
Betty Baker, of Bedford, passed away peacefully in the early morning of September 7, 2021.
She was born on January 5, 1926, in Barre, Vermont, the only child of John and Ruby Mitchell. She was raised in Barre, received her bachelor's degree from Simmons College and later, her master's/teaching certificate from Framingham State College.
She met Richard Baker while working at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and in typical "Betty style" married Dick on NBC's Bride and Groom television show in New York City on March 20, 1951. They moved to Bedford in 1952.
After her children were in school, she worked as a Home Economics teacher in Bedford High School where she developed several new courses for male students to learn what she called "bachelor survival skills'. In her spare time, she was an avid snow skier, card player and golfer. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband in 2006, her son-in-law, Michael Regentz in 2012, and her grandson, Kyle Baker in 2017.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Jennifer Austin and Charles of Westford, Cynthia McGowan and Don of Bedford, Bill Baker and Julie of Oro Valley, AZ, 5 grandchildren, Meredeth and Erin McGowan, Mark Regentz, Ian and Kelsie Baker, and 3 great grandchildren, Miles and Cassandra Vlahos, and Shaun Regentz.
Funeral Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Carleton-Willard Village Employee Appreciation Fund, 100 Old Billerica Rd, Bedford, MA 01730.
