Arthur T. Miller passed away peacefully on October 14, at the age of 94 at the Sawtelle Family House in Reading.  He is predeceased by his wife Helen "Lynne" (Woods) Miller and parents Susanna (Chipman) Miller and Frederick Miller.

Arthur grew up in Arlington and Lexington, with his siblings, Margaret Berman of Bedford and the late Mary Lou Powers, Patricia McKenzie and Frederick Miller Jr.  He attended Lexington High School where he was a three-sport athlete and Class of 1948 president.  After graduating from high school, Arthur enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served in the Korean Conflict.  In 1952, he was honorably discharged after being wounded in action and was honored with a Purple Heart.

Following his return from the service, he briefly attended the University of Miami in Florida before transferring to the University of Massachusetts in Amherst where he majored in marketing. He was a member of the football team and the Kappa Sigma fraternity. While at UMass he met and married his wife, Lynne.

Arthur and Lynne settled in Bedford, where they raised their family of 6 children and where he owned and operated the family business, Miller Disposal, which he ran for over 25 years.  The motto was "Satisfaction Guaranteed or Double Your Trash Back!"

He was involved in the community as a member of the Lions Club and as a Lexington Minuteman.  He was instrumental in starting the Bedford Minutemen.

At the age of 50, Arthur sold the business and retired to North Falmouth.  There he spent his time "flipping" homes, restoring them before resale.  He was known for digging out basements wheelbarrow by wheelbarrow; carefully maintaining his landscape; and spending time in his workshop building or repairing something.  He seemed to always have a project, and his workshop was filled with everything you could ever need to get the job done.

In retirement, he enjoyed boating, playing golf, travelling, and meticulously maintaining his home and landscape.  He and Lynne also spent time in Florida, where they enjoyed entertaining family and friends.  He cherished his lifelong friends and maintained strong bonds with many from Bedford, Lexington, and his Kappa Sigma fraternity brothers. He always looked forward to a visit with friends, especially hosting or attending the annual Kappa Sigma Falmouth Road Race party.

His true joy, though, was his family.  He prioritized that over all else.  He was a devoted husband providing care for Lynne when she became ill until her passing in 2011.  During their 56-year marriage the Millers were blessed with six children: Fredrick (Amy Goode) of Staunton, VA; Carol (Steve Froton) of Lowell, MA; the late Susan (Dennis) Murphy, the late Thomas J., Katherine (David) Farren of Sudbury, MA; and Mary (Brendan) O'Connor of Akron, OH.  He also cherished his 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Arthur was an avid sports fan and was a Patriots season ticket holder for many years. He also enjoyed watching the Celtics, Red Sox, Bruins, and UMass football.

Arthur enjoyed his final years at Chelmsford Crossings, an assisted living community, where he was known for playing card games, especially cribbage, and was on the welcoming committee.

He will be remembered for his kind heart, generosity, positive outlook, and being there whenever he was needed.

Visitation will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Sunday, October 20, from 1:00-4:00 PM. His funeral service will be held at the Church of Our Redeemer, 6 Meriam St., Lexington, on Monday, October 21, at 10:00 AM.
