Arthur L.
Flores
Oct 29, 1933 — Mar 5, 2022
Bedford
Arthur Lloyd Flores of Bedford, Massachusetts passed away peacefully while surrounded by loving family on March 5, 2022.
Arthur was born at Puunene Hospital on the island of Maui in Hawaii on October 29, 1933. After spending his youngest years on both Maui and Oahu, his family moved to Bremerton, Washington, where he attended high school with his three brothers. He graduated from the University of Washington and then joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge as a 1 st Lieutenant.
After his service, Arthur moved to Washington D.C. where he enrolled in graduate school at Catholic University, receiving his PhD in Physical Chemistry in 1966. While attending graduate school, he met and married his wife Sally Ann Sheehan. After graduate school, Arthur and Sally moved to Bedford, Massachusetts, where they raised their four children, Mary, Christina, Fred, and Robert.
Arthur worked for more that 40 years for the U.S. Department of Transportation, where he led a laboratory that focused on improving blood alcohol testing used by law enforcement, which has contributed to the drastic reduction of drunk driving deaths in the U.S.
One of Arthur's greatest joys was spending time with his beloved grandchildren, of whom he was very proud. He always had time for each of them, enjoyed hearing about their interests and loved to convey his many stories to them. He was a master storyteller. Arthur led a very active life, enjoying bicycling, basketball, tennis, hiking, attending his grandchildren's events, and walking his grand dogs.
Arthur is predeceased by his wife Sally, his parents Benjamin Flores and Orlina Rios Large, and his brother Robert Flores. He is survived by his four children; Mary Flores of Dublin, OH, Christina Pare and her husband Mark of Bedford, MA, Fred Flores and his wife Catherine of Kennebunk, ME, and Robert Flores of Redwood City, CA; brothers Tom Flores and Cliff Flores, and five grandchildren: Jack, Bobby and Justin Pare, and Emma and Maya Flores.
A small family memorial service will be held, and interment will be at Shawsheen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Doctors Without Borders https://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/ or Oxfam America https://www.oxfamamerica.org/
Arthur's wish was that we all be kind to one another and leave the world a kinder place than when we arrived.
