Anthony R. Correia, 87, of Billerica, formerly of Bedford, died surrounded by family on May 1.
Mr. Correia was born in Newport, RI on July 8, 1929, and he was the son of the late Anthony and Ann (Moitoza) Correia.
He attended public school in Middletown, RI and went to high school at De La Salle Academy in Newport, RI, graduating with a scholarship to the University of Rhode Island where he earned his degree in mechanical engineering.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict for four years.
He was employed by Kiekhaefer Corporation in Wisconsin as a Field Manager for maintenance and repair of Mercury Outboard engines and boats.
He participated in many New England Boat Shows representing and demonstrating Mercury Outboard motors and boats, including water ski shows.
In 1958, he assisted his father in establishing and opening Toni Marine Sales in Middletown, RI which specialized in the sales, repair and overhauling of Mercury Outboard Motors and the sale of accessories.
Over his lengthy career, he worked for several New England companies as mechanical engineer and retired from Digital Equipment Corporation in Maynard, MA as Corporate Engineer.
He had many hobbies. He enjoyed listening to classical music, singing in many chorale groups, water skiing, carpentry, woodworking, boat building and he was a prolific reader.
Mr. Correia is survived by his wife of 49 years, Aspasia Mary, daughter, Marcy Ann Norse and two grandchildren, Elle and Luke Norse.
His funeral service will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home on Thursday, May 4, at 10:00 A.M. Visitation for family and friends will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 3, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.
