Major Alfred G. Colonero (USAF Retired), 88, of Bedford, died on September 6, 2021.

He was born in Douglas, MA and was the son of Italian immigrants, the late Pasquale and Dolores (Damore) Colonero.

Following high school, he attended the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC where he earned his degree in Electrical Engineering.

Al enlisted in the US Air Force in 1956 and honorably served until his retirement in 1976. While in the Air Force, he was stationed in several places around the country and the world. His final tour of duty was at Hanscom Air Force Base. Following his retirement, he went to work in the private sector using his engineering degree in hardware/software development programs.

He loved sports and in earlier years played semi-professional baseball and was also a talented golfer and avid Red Sox fan. An enthusiastic chef, he taught his children and grandchildren how to cook and shared his love of music with them. He took great pleasure in being "Grandpa Al". He also enjoyed gardening and volunteered at the Bedford Community Table and Food Pantry. Al was an active member of the Counsel of Aging for years and dedicated many hours to the "fix it" shop.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ann (Michna) Colonero in 1983. They were married on August 27, 1955, Douglas MA.

He is survived by his 6 children and their spouses, Mary Scott and Jeffrey of Amherst, NH, Leslie Ehle and Roger of Greenfield, NY, Stephanie Fields and David of Westmoreland, NH, Darren Colonero and Debbie of New Ipswich, NH, Peter Colonero of Acton, MA and Daniel Colonero of Bedford, MA.  9 grandchildren, Amanda Cranson, Katelyn Scott, Samantha, Sarah and Jennifer Fields, Aryn Colonero and Dylan, Dustin and Angela Ehle and 6 great grandchildren, Collins and McKinnon (Ollie & Mac) Cranson and Evie, Aramis, Roxanne, and Ethan Ehle and daughter-in-law Carolyn Colonero.

Al will be remembered by many friends in the Bedford community and neighboring towns, including friend Judy McLaughlin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford, on Wednesday, September 15, at 10:00 A.M. Face masks will be required in church. Interment will follow at Shawsheen Cemetery in Bedford.
