Albert M. "Al" Bertini, 72, of Bedford, formerly of Melrose and Somerville, died on October 15, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Diecimo, Italy and was the son of the late Alceste and Anastasia (Ambrogi) Bertini.

His family immigrated to the United States when Al was 9 and settled in Somerville. He was a graduate of Somerville High School, Class of 1965, he later completed his Associate Degree at what is now UMass Lowell.

Al proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, as an Electrician's Mate Second Class, from 1966-1969.

Most of his career was spent with Digital Equipment Corporation, he was employed in field service for 25 years. His work involved troubleshooting system problems and he exceled in his responsibilities. Following his retirement from Digital he worked with Siemens and eventually Paychex in Woburn.

He enjoyed building computers, gardening, cooking and traveling. He was an active member of the Digital Alumni Group.

He was the devoted husband of Alice E. (Lyons) Bertini. Loving father of Elizabeth Dennis and her husband Brendan of Bedford and Michael Bertini of Cambridge. Dear brother of Teresa Bertini of Melrose. Cherished grandfather of Olivia Dennis.

Funeral from the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Monday, October 22, at 8:00 AM, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford, at 9:00 AM. Visitation at the funeral home on Sunday, October 21, from 2:00-6:00 PM. Burial will be private.
