Adamandia (Katsarou) Makrakis of Billerica, MA, aged 82, peacefully passed away at home on January 14, 2021 with her loving husband, Vasilios, by her side.

Adamandia was born the youngest of eight children to the late Constantine and Myrsini Katsarou in Lesvos, Greece. She married Vasilios in 1962, and the two immigrated with their daughters to the United States in 1971. First residing in Baltimore, MD, they relocated to Brooklyn, NY shortly after, where they connected with family and many friends and were active with the Mytilenian Society. Adamandia and Vasilios eventually moved to Billerica, MA, wanting to be closer to their grandchildren.

Affectionately known to many as "Dee," she was best known for her cooking. Guests were always impressed at her ability to whip up a delicious Greek spread within minutes of their arrival. She was also admired for her impeccable needlework. Be it weaving, needlepoint, cross stitch, embroidery, or crochet, her work was flawless and will be forever cherished by her family

Adamandia is survived by her husband, Vasilios Makrakis; their two daughters, Anthoula Pollak (Joseph) of Cumberland, ME and Myrsini Makrakis (Mario Pimentel) of Marlborough, MA; her grandchildren, Brenna Collingham (Andrew), Anyssa Sanville (Shawn), Constantine Pollak (Marissa Lagassey), Melina Morris, and Asimina Morris; three great-grandchildren, Logan, Michael, and Scarlett; her brother Fotios of Lesvos, Greece and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was much loved by all and will be greatly missed.

A service in her honor will be held on Wednesday, January 20, at St. Athanasius The Great Greek Orthodox Church, 4 Appleton Street, Arlington, MA. The wake will begin at 9am, with a liturgy to follow at 10am.
