Richard O. Brooks, 79, of Bedford, died on January 28, 2013, in Concord following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Brooks was born in Somerville, on May 28, 1933, and he was the son of the late Sidney and Agnes (Feli) Brooks.
He was a graduate of Northeastern University in Boston where he earned both his bachelors and masters degrees in electrical engineering.
He worked for many years at Raytheon and also taught engineering at Wentworth Institute in Boston.
Mr. Brooks was a member of the Electrical Engineering Society, ETA KAPPA NU.
In the late 1960s, he became a freelance commercial artist and continued this career path through the mid 70s. He then began painting and had galleries in Boston, Springfield and Chappaqua, New York.
Mr. Brooks had lived in Bedford since his marriage to Muriel Wolloff in 1960. Here they raised their sons and have been longtime members of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel at the St. Benedict Center in Harvard, MA.
Mr. Brooks is survived by his beloved wife, Muriel, loving sons, Matthew Brooks and his wife, Karen of Hubbardston and Peter Brooks of Needham, his sisters, Cynthia Foster of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Barbara Greene of Duxbury and devoted grandchildren Rebecca, Anthony, Sebastian, Phillip and Margaret. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Angelina.
His funeral will be held from the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 The Great Rd., Bedford, Fri., Feb 1, at 8:45 followed by a funeral Mass in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, at St. Benedict Center, 282 Still River Rd., Harvard, MA at 10:00 A.M. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thurs., Jan. 31, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Interment will be in Shawsheen Cemetery in Bedford.
